Irish Traditions Atlanta

Donal Fleming

Irish Traditions Atlanta (ITA) was first established in 1984 as the Atlanta branch of CCÉ. ITA has been a force behind the music scene in Atlanta where members host and participate in a number of sessions around the metropolitan Atlanta area and beyond. Our premier music school, the Atlanta Irish Music School directed by long term member Katherine Irwin Thomas, produces next generation musicians who participate in the SCT exams and Regional Fleadhanna. From there, many qualified musicians and singers are attending, placing and winning their categories at Fleadh Cheoil na Éireann. During 2016, ITA was proud to recognize our first ever world champion in Irish Fiddle.

Since 2009, ITA has awarded annual scholarships to assist exemplary members to attend culturally relevant schools, camps or other educational opportunities, in keeping with the mission and objectives of an Comhaltas.

During 2016, ITA was proud to recognize our first ever world champion in Irish Fiddle.

During 2012 a strategic plan was developed and born out of that work was the launch of IrishFest Atlanta in 2013. IrishFest Atlanta, is a small and growing festival of music and dance, songs, language, and culture, with planning well underway for our 5th annual event. (Visit www.IrishFestAtlanta.org as this year's details are revealed!)
